I classify this piece as postminimalist. I composed it in 2005 but never finished it. It was resurrected in 2007 to help me learn Logic Pro 8. Virtual classical instrumentation was produced by Logic 's samplers.
The composition consists of a constant alternation between 2 simple rhythmic and harmonic ideas: C major for 6 beats, then E minor for 5 beats.

Re: Mind and Heart
hey..
i love this composition, i have been trying to create a train horn sound using Map/Jitter/Msp..but i'm not really getting the sound that i'm looking for..and that sound is extactly the same as the starting (first 9 seconds)of this composition. So i was wondering if u know how to make a same sound in max/msp/jitter..if u can help me it'll be a great favor...thx
Re: Mind and Heart
Almost everything in this song uses the EXS24 sampler instrument that came with Logic Studio (EXS24 comes with the cheaper versions of Logic too but I don't know if they have all the samples).
The percussion sound at the very beginning is a drum roll on a suspended cymbal (I think that's what you're talking about? It doesn't sound like a train sound to me though). That sound is from EXS24's 'Orchestral Kit'. I don't know a good way to try to make this sound from scratch with Max/MSP, but you could find some cymbal samples online (try searching for 'cymbal roll' at http://www.freesound.org) and maybe tweak it by changing the playback speed with Max's groove~ object.
